Thanksgiving

せんしゅうは「Thanksgiving」でしたよ。

こうこうのともだちがたくさんきました。じゅうにんぐらいでした。

みんなのうちとかぞくはかんこくにありまから、ニューヨークにきました。

SOHOのホテルにねました。SOHOはコロンビアからとおいですから、ともだちといっしょうにホテルにいました。

みんなたくさんたべました。
すいようびにやきにくをたべました。
もくようびに「Thanksgiving Dinner」をたべました。
そしてきにょうびにたきとりをたべました。
ぜんぶとてもおいしいでした。

きにょうびにSOHOにかいものをしにいきました。
ごぜん６時からごご１２じまでかいものをしましたが、わたしはぜんぜんかいませんでした。
でもともだちがありましたから、たのしいでした。

どようびに「Empire State Building」のうえにいきました。
どてもたかいです、そしてきれいでして。

コンサート

こんしゅうまつにコンサートににかいいきました。

きにょうびに「Moving Units」と「VHS or Beta」のコンサートへいきました。

どようびに「Relient K」と「Switchfoot」のコンサートへいきました。

どてもおもしろいでした。いそがしいなしゅまつでした。

Moving Units is a dance-punk band from California. They're intros have a very euro-house feel to them. VHS or Beta, like it's name hints at, sounds like an 80's band, but they are similar to Moving Units because they are generally dance-punk.

Relient K and Switchfoot, on the other hand, are what you can call american alternative rock. They are both labeled as Christian bands because all the members are Christian, but they don't claim to be exclusive to the Christian audience. I bumped into Caitlin at the concert. What a small world :).

かんこくのりうょり

きょう、かんこくのりょうりをしました。かんこくのもちとデザートをつくりました。ヤクシクとホットクです。とてもおいしいですよ。ヤクバップはごはんとくりとしょゆとなつめでつくります。We bought a cake mix for the Hodduk. Hodduk is a sweet korean pancake with honey and nuts inside. They didn't really trust me with cooking everything so I don't know what the recipe is, but you ought to try these food when you have a change. K-town's Woorijib (our house) is a small Korean deli with a lot of these kinds of food.

かんこくのりょうりがいちばんおいしですよ！

なかしまさんへ、

はじめまして、わたしのなまえは「ヒマン　リー」です。らいねんのなつやすみににほんでべんきょうしますから、なかしまさんのうちでホームステイをします。わたしはかんこくからきました。でもいまはコロンビアだいがくにいきます。わたしはだいがくのにねんせいです。せんこうはきかいこうがくですが、にほんごもべんきょうします。

コロンビアだいがくはニューヨークのなかにあります。アメリカでとてもゆめいなだいがくです。キャンパスにはきがたくさんありますから、きれいです。ここのがくせいはべんきょうをよくしますが、しゅうまつにはパーティーもよくします。にぎやかながっこうです。わたしはエンジニアのがっこうのがくせいです。エンジニアのがっこうはちいさいですが、とてもむずかしいです。だいがくせいのせいかつはいそがしいです。まいしゅうしけんがあります。しゅくだいもたくさんあります。わたしはクラブのアクティビティもたくさんあります。かんこくのがくせいのクラブとエンジニアがくせいのカウンシルをします。クラブのためにいろいろなしごとをします。それのせいでやすみのじかんがあまりないです。

このなつやすみににほんごをべんきょうします。ろくがつとおかにかんこくからにほんへいきます。

シカゴ

このElection Day Weekendにシカゴへいきました。
シカゴはちいさいまちですが、どてもきれいまちです。
あそこのビルがきれいから、まちもすてきです。
「SEARS Tower」へいきました。
おいしいレストランにいきました。「Fondue」とブラジルスタイルのステーキハウスでたべました。
さいごのひ、「Northwestern」でともだちにあいました。
ともだちはにほんじんです、でもかんこくごをならいます。
ともだちのかんこくごのしゅくだいをHELPしました。

シカゴはどてもおもしろいでした。

いま、３じ３１ぷんです。

でもねむいじゃありません。
どうして？ごご９じからごぜん３じまでねましたから。
たいへんですよ！「どうするの．．．』

このしゅうまつにシカゴへいきます。
わたしのいとこにあいます。
いっしょにたべものわたくさんたべます。
もくようびからにちようびまでいきます。
にほんごのMIDTERMはあしたですね。
しけんのあとにひこうきでいきまｓ。

ちょっとむずかしいね。。。

いまにほんごのクラスはどてもむずかしいです。
あたまがいたいよ。
きょうよじからじゅうにじまでべにょうします。
Hopefully I will be able to concentrate.
This is officially Midterm week and I at last feel like the year has really settled in.
And Japanese is really kicking my butt. New adjective forms and verbs definitely make it more complicated.

But I'm so glad that I know how to speak Korean because it is grammatically equivalent 90% of the time. Our cultures are very similar too, so the language lab videos don't seem all too foreign to me. This winter I'll be going to Japan and Korea again, maybe I'll try to compare the differences even more this time.

せんしゅうのどようびにいろいろしました。
あさにK-TownでCommunity Serviceをしました。
ひるやすみにともだちとひるごはんをたべました。
そしてEngineering Class Councilとさけをのみました。
みんあとカラオケにいきました。
YaleのともだちとHookahをすいました。

Weekend

I had a very busy weekend.
べんきょうしませんでした。
試験がたくさなります。どうしましょ？

I was all over the the City this weekend and I realized that there's a lot of Japanese culture all around. I first went to the KSA date auction because I planned the event at a place called Tokyo Pop (104th on Broadway). I heard the food there is おいしい, because it is Japanese and French fusion cuisine. Yesterday I went to a Ramen place by Time Square called Sapporo Restaurant. It has a ghetto store front, but the inside's pretty nice and the Ramen was awesome. That same night I hit up a hookah bar in St. Marks and we went to a Yakitori restaurant right after because we were so hungry.

I love Japanese food. It might be my favorite cuisine. Especially Japanese fusion and Nouveau Japanese. Sushi Samba is one of my favorite restaurants, there's one on 7th avenue and Park avenue (both are really downtown). It is a fusion of Japanese and Brazilian cuisines. I also really like the high class Japanese restaurants called Megu and Nobu. Megu is more affordable and I think it tastes better than Nobu.

Everyone's ought to hit up these restaurants!

Random Thoughts of the Moment

I will have to spend more time and effort on my blog to make it more きれい。
But ありがとう everyone for commenting on my blog! Even a がくせい from Virginia University commented on my last post (if I read the katakana correctly).

Right now at Columbia University there is a huge commotion because Ahmadinejad, the current president of Iran, is giving a speech at Columbia University. I was really scared about this yesterday because it started to cause an uproar even from last week. It's still a little crazy on campus, but I feel like it's not as bad as I expected it to be. There's just a lot of press and mild protests going on. I got to understand a lot more about the situation of Iran and its relationship with America through this event. Now I realize that since I am no longer a child, I should be more knowledgeable about world politics, or politics in general.

I hope I can concentrate in today's Japanese class! During my Japanese Civilzations class I was just reading the news feed on NY Times and the bwog about Ahmadinejab's speech.

学生の人生。。。

学生の人生はBUSYです！
宿題がたくさんあります。
I'm also busy because of all the クラブs.

I feel like I'm behind with all the work already.
Eventhough 日本語の宿題 is pretty simple for now, I can sense that it will become very むずかしい in the near future.

To calm myself in these situations, I listen to a lot of songs.
When I do homework, I like to listen to the Japanese Hip-Hop duo m-flo, because it pumps me up. Their song 『Tripod Baby』 is especially helpful.
Other Japanese artists that I like include Utada Hikaru, Nakashima Mika, and Mr. Children.
Everyone should try giving them a listen.

Well, I have to return to doing homework now.

韓国から来ました。

I'll be using this blog to record my stories about learning Japanese and anything else that I want to talk about.　I'm still in the process of learning the language so please excuse all my mistakes. I'm learning Japanese now because I'm fascinated by my neighboring country and it would be nice to be able to communicate whenever I visit.
